Two Verdi Operas Screen at Peterborough Players from The Met: Live in HD, 12/8 & 15

Two operas by Giuseppe Verdi will be simulcast live on the Peterborough Players big screen on two successive Saturdays at 1:00 pm: a new production of Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball) on December 8; and Aida on December 15.

Un Ballo in Maschera: Director David Alden’s dreamlike setting provides a compelling backdrop for this dramatic story of jealousy and vengeance. Marcelo Alvarez stars as the conflicted king; Sondra Radvanovsky is Amelia, the object of his secret passion; and Dmitri Hvorostovsky is her suspicious husband. Kathleen Kim is the page Oscar, and Stephanie Blythe sings the role of the fortune-teller Ulrica. Fabio Luisi conducts.

Aida: The Metropolitan Opera’s unforgettable production of Verdi’s ancient Egyptian drama stars Liudmyla Monastryska as the enslaved Ethiopian princess caught in a love triangle with the heroic Radames, played by Robert Alagna, and the proud Egyptian princess Amneris, sung by Olga Borodina. Fabio Luisi conducts. Aida is one of Verdi’s most beautiful, popular, grand and thrilling operas.

Delicious savory and sweet “Opera Bites” from Sunflowers Restaurant and Catering will be available both pre-show and during intermission.
