Momentum Dance Collective Presents CARRIED AWAY Anchorage - You know this place. It's the spot you crawled into as a child, inside your makeshift fortress with a flashlight in one hand and your favorite book in the other. Inspired by the worlds between the pages of our favorite childhood stories, "Carried Away" flies you through the deepest spaces of your imagination, on a journey filled with wonder, suspense, beauty, and hope.

A tribute to Momentum's dancers, supporters, and collaborators over the first 10 seasons, this interactive show delivers breathtaking aerial work, set design, costumes, and animations from visual artists Ruby Jones, Enzina Marrari, and Selene Stoll, with lighting design by Fred Sagar. Featuring original songs performed live by The Super Saturated Sugar Strings, Pikal, and the Absurdist Ensemble, and original compositions by Michael Holtz and Greger Wright.

Whether you're a kid or kid at heart, "Carried Away" will inspire you to laugh at the absurd, face your fears, hang on tightly to those you love, and let your imagination run wild!

About Momentum

Momentum Dance Collective is a nonprofit dance company made up of artists whose work is rooted in the collaborative approach, working in partnership with musicians, visual artists, photographers, and filmmakers to create everything from short works to expansive full-length shows. We have collaborated with innovative artists and organizations, on sites and stages all over Anchorage and continue to build new relationships each season. We have worked in conjunction with the Light Brigade since its formation in site specific urban art interventions such as the 'Trans' series from 2009 - 2013, culminating in it's acclaimed finale of, 'Over Beyond Across Through' in 2013 on the Anchorage Museum. We are committed to working collaboratively to produce new, evolving, and excellent work in Anchorage, and support the growth of new dancers in our projects, work in the schools, and outreach programs.

About The Super Saturated Sugar String

A soul-shaking, infinitely charming band from the far north. Powerful, funky and alt-folky, the Super Saturated Sugar Strings have a very nostalgic, yet contemporary sound; rich with vocal harmonies, string melodies, and an element of carnival sideshow. Their gypsy-country vibe has won the group high honors and has stirred a fervent congregation of dedicated fans.

Based in Anchorage, Alaska, the group formed in 2011 and includes Kat Moore on vocals, piano, keyboard, and percussion; Carlyle Watt on vocals, guitar, and percussion; Theresa Watt on cello; Miriah Phelps on violin; Logan Bean on trumpet; Kevin Worrell on bass.

About Pikal

Anchorage, Alaska power pop band Pikal was formed in 1994 by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Rick Kinsey, former drummer for the eighties band The Shocks and Trauma Groove in the early nineties. Michael Holtz is a veteran of the Anchorage music scene having played in such bands as Woodrow, SJ and Drums, and Yesman. Rick's longtime friend and seasoned folk-circuit vocalist Nina Brudie has sung with Pikal on and off since its inception. In the spring of 2014 Pikal changed its lineup, repositioning Michael Holtz to lead guitar and recruiting two new members: bassist Jason Burdette and drummer Danny Reeves. Jason Burdette is another veteran of the Anchorage music scene, having brought bassy goodness to local bands Spawn, Malaka, and Groove Nectar. Danny Reeves, a long-time Anchorage guitarist, expands his music portfolio by providing Pikal's heartbeat. While touring Alaska, Pikal has opened for such national acts as the Violent Femmes, the Posies, Grouplove, Pond, and Big Head Todd and the Monsters.
