THE BODY IN QUESTION will play Jan 18-20, 2013, at the Winchester Street Theatre, featuring choreography by Deborah Hay in an adaptation and performance by Christopher House.

The Body in Question features Christopher House in bold new adaptations of Deborah Hay's News and At Once in collaboration with lighting designer Simon Rossiter.

Deborah Hay was one of the founding members of the Judson Dance Theatre in New York in the early sixties, a group whose radical vision has influenced dance for the past 50 years. Hay has stayed on the leading edge of contemporary practice with her rigorous, engaging and complex work. The New York Times, recently said Hay's work "seems never to be just a formal dance but to be a larger image of life. Tempo, meter, dynamics constantly change, giving the sense always of an inner spirit."

Christopher House has been working with Deborah Hay since 2006 and has participated three times in her Solo Performance Commissioning Project in Findhorn, Scotland, learning three of her solos including News and At Once. House has invited her to Toronto on several occasions to teach, perform and ultimately to create a group work for TDT, Up Until Now (2009).

The solo News was first performed at the Winchester St. Theatre in the fall of 2006, followed by five performances at the Canada Dance Festival in June 2008. At Once premiered in Toronto in April 2010 on a program with British dancer Joe Moran called At Once Twice. It was presented again in Brighton in December 2011, where it was a critics pick in Time Out.
