Review: ECHOensemble's ONE Hits Dixon Place

ECHOensemble recently debuted its show One, at New York City's Dixon Place, a non-profit theatre representing alternative creative arts. The experimental presentation, created by Brooklyn composer Jonah Udall, weaved sound and movement to create an artistic performance that captured the body and the space around it.

The group ECHOensemble consists of different imaginative talent of the performing arts. Musicians include Kalun Leung (trombonist), Sean Brekke (violist), Noah Becker (clarinetist/saxophonist), and Jonah Udall (guitarist) alongside the dancers: Allison Sexton, Liana Kleinman, Mary McGrath, Erin Landers, and Dani Cole.

Repetition was widely used throughout the show, with the dancers all moving their bodies in one single smooth sway or violent jolt forming unity before organically progressing toward their own gestures. The breath from the dancers and musical rhythms from the instruments also echoed one another helping to fuse original sound within the physical realm.

One was performed at Dixon Place from January 27-28th. For more information on the show and its performers, visit ECHOensemble's official website.
