American Ballet Theater Holds Pre-Performance Talk on Jerome Robbins' Fancy Free

By: Jun. 03, 2010

Continuing its 70th Anniversary celebration, American Ballet Theatre will offer a special pre-performance talk on Friday, June 11, at 6:00 P.M. Members of ABT's alumni will gather to discuss Jerome Robbins' groundbreaking ballet, Fancy Free, originally commissioned by ABT in 1944. Moderated by Alex Ewing, author of Bravura: Lucia Chase and American Ballet Theatre, the talk is free to all ticket holders of the Friday, June 11 repertory evening of ABT Premieres.

Fancy Free premiered at the Metropolitan Opera House by American Ballet Theatre on April 18, 1944 and was the first ballet work by Jerome Robbins. A seminal work, Fancy Free presented a mix of old and new dance that widely influenced developments in the United States' theatre and ballet.

No additional reservation is required to attend the pre-performance. American Ballet Theatre's 2010 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House continues through July 10, 2010. For more information, visit www.abt.org.
