"Mind blowingly talented" (Portland Examiner), violinist Lucia Micarelli delivers a performance that takes her instrument well outside the traditional boundaries, traversing genres from classical to rock. She wields her fiery bow at The Eccles Center tonight, February 21. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 435-655-3114 or online at EcclesCenter.org.

A rare combination of extraordinary grace and energy, Micarelli tears into her violin with dazzling passion and exquisite musicianship. She puts on a show that bowls over audiences and her fellow performers. As All About Jazz puts it, "Her playing is elegant, and runs the gamut of emotions from brooding to joyous." And Chris Botti (with whom she has toured), calls her "a rock star and a brilliant violinist."

Micarelli first picked up the violin at age three. At five, she performed as a soloist for the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. She attended the Julliard School of Music while simultaneously performing in concert halls across the nation. Then, while studying with renowned violinist Pinchas Zukerman, she began moonlighting, hitting jazz clubs, jamming with rock bands and taking that classical fiddle into worlds and genres far flung from her concerto roots. She's toured with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra as a featured violinist and joined Josh Groban as a guest soloist for two of his tours.

In addition to releasing two of her own albums, "Music From a Farther Room" and "Interlude," Micarelli has toured with an array of musicians - most recently, Barbara Streisand. The vivacious now-31 year-old also made her acting debut when she landed a gig as "the woman who makes [HBO's] 'Treme' worth watching" (Esquire).

"Lucia Micarelli is unlike any violinist we've welcomed to the stage," says PCI executive director Teri Orr. "She's got that edgy quality and fearlessness that makes her fresh and exciting as well as tremendous expertise as a classical performer. She truly is a remarkable and versatile musician."
