Timothy Albrecht Completes Bach's “Well-Tempered Clavier” in 2013-14 Organ Series

By: Aug. 13, 2013

Emory University announces the 2013-2014 University Organist Recital Series. Timothy Albrecht returns with fan favorite concerts like Halloween special "Scary Ride!" as well as the final installment of the Bach Birthday Cycle featuring "Well-Tempered Clavier I & II." All concerts are free and open to the public.

This season, Emory University Organist Albrecht completes Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier" on March 21 at 8 p.m. Comprised of 48 preludes and 48 fugues that create a musical universe, "Well-Tempered Clavier" portrays a wide emotional spectrum from elation to lament, and showcases the complete catalogue of Baroque rhythms, meters, melodic figuration and fugal techniques.

"Many rank Bach's 'Well-Tempered Clavier' among Western Art's highest achievements; along with Michelangelo's sculptures, Shakespeare's dramas, Beethoven's symphonies, and Dostoyevsky's novels," says Albrecht. Presented in honor of Bach's birthday for the past four years, this season's installment sees the completion of the cycle for the first time in Atlanta.

Albrecht kicks off the season with "Bach Live!" on September 8 at 4 p.m., featuring Bach keyboard gems on both the Graves Memorial and Wortsman Memorial organs.

"Scary Ride!" returns on October 30 at 8 p.m. Count Dracula (Timothy Albrecht) and his minions are back, amidst thunder, lightening, fog, and gargoyles with Halloween fun for all ages.
