About The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace - Written by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, this piece has endured as a powerful anti-war composition and has been performed thousands of times since it premiered in 2000. The composition blends the universal themes of war and peace, and combines the traditional mass with other musical, religious, and historical sources. These include a fifteenth-century folk song, the Islamic call to prayer, the Bible, and the Mahabharata along with words from the works of Rudyard Kipling, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and Sankichi Toge, who survived the Hiroshima bombing.

The First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir has been invited to participate in a concert of this work at Carnegie Hall in January 2016. They be travelling there to sing with choirs from England, Northern Ireland, France and Germany, and the composer will be present. It will surely be an amazing experience and we are honored to have been selected to represent the United States.
