Frohnmayer Memorial Recital and More Set for Loyola University New Orleans, Nov 2013

The Loyola Faculty Brass Quintet will kick off a series of concerts, including a memorial recital dedicated to the late Phil Frohnmayer, by Loyola University New Orleans' leading musical ensembles as part of the Montage Fine and Performing Arts Series. All performances are free and open to the public.

• "A Night in Brazil: The Music of Antonio Carlos Jobim," Wednesday, Nov. 6, 7:30 p.m., Nunemaker Auditorium
  Led by Loyola senior Shoshana Shattenkirk on piano and vocals, the night of Bossa Nova music features fellow students Bryce Eastwood on saxophone, Sean Wallace on guitar, Stephan Bohnstengel on bass and Joel Zobrist on drums. The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the College of Humanities and Natural Science and the Department of Music Industry Studies.
• Frohnmayer Memorial Recital, Sunday, Nov. 10, 2:30 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church
  The event will feature performances by students, faculty and alumni, along with remembrances of longtime voice faculty member, Phil Frohnmayer.
• Loyola Jazz Band, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7:30 p.m., Louis J. Roussel Performance Hall
  The program will include compositions by Maria Schneider, Thad Jones, Bill Cunliffe, Benny Carter and Mike Tomaro, to name a few. The band, directed by John Mahoney, will also perform Quincy Jones' classic arrangement of "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" and Jim McNeely's "Ubermut," inspired by the paintings of Paul Klee.
• Loyola Jazz Workshop and Training Bands, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 7:30 p.m., Roussel Hall
  Directed by Jason Mingledorff and Ray Moore, the bands will perform a selection of music by such jazz masters as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Thelonious Monk.
• Loyola University Wind Ensemble, Saturday, Nov. 16, 3 p.m., Roussel Hall
  Directed by Joseph Hebert, Ph.D. and featuring guest conductor Col. John Bourgeois '90, H'05, the concert will feature 49 outstanding high school musicians on stage with the Loyola student ensemble. The program includes "Rocky Point Holiday" by Ron Nelson, "Damnation of Faust" by Hector Berlioz, "Sigfried's Funeral March" by Richard Wagner, "Grace Praeludium" by Francis McBeth and "March Op. 99" by Sergei Prokofiev.
• Loyola Chamber Orchestra, Saturday, Nov. 16, 7:30 p.m., Roussel Hall
• Loyola Concert Band, Sunday, Nov. 17, 12 p.m., Roussel Hall
  The band will perform excerpts from Gustav Mahler's finale movement to Symphony No. 3, Johann Strauss' "Radetzky March," Aaron Copland's "Down a Country Lane" and J.B. Chance's "Incantation and Dance."
• Loyola Choirs Fall Concert, "Celebrating Britten," Thursday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m., Holy Name of Jesus Church
  In a program honoring the 100th birthday of English composer Benjamin Britten, the Loyola Chorale, University Chorus and Chamber Singers, joined by organist Dr. Marcus St. Julien, will perform a selection of Britten highlights, including: "Festival Te Deum," "Rejoice in the Lamb," "Hymn to St. Cecilia," "Jubilate Deo in C" and "The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard," among others.
