Conductor Nicholas McGegan returns to the Hollywood Bowl to lead Grammy-winning double bassist Edgar Meyer and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, along with special guests Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas in their Hollywood Bowl debuts tonight, August 27, 2015 at 8 p.m.

The evening's program features Edgar Meyer not only as a classical bass player, but also as composer and Newgrass player. McGegan, a Baroque specialist, has appeared at the Bowl for nearly two decades since 1994. Meyer and McGegan will collaborate together for this first time on this program highlighting the versatility of the string bass.

Known as the King of Telluride and the King of Newgrass, Sam Bush is a Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist who'sbeen honored by the Americana Music Association and the International Bluegrass Music Association. Bush is also known for his skills on the mandolin and is a three-time national junior fiddle champion and Grammy-winning vocalist.

Jerry Douglas is a twelve-time Grammy-winning recording artist in music, both as a solo artist and member of groundbreaking bands such as J.D. Crowe & the New South, the Country Gentlemen, Boone Creek, and Strength In Numbers. Douglas' distinctive sound has been featured in 1500 albums. Since 1998, he's been a member of Alison Krauss and Union Station, touring extensively and co-producing and playing on numerous albums. His most recent solo releases include, Glide and his first-ever holiday album, Jerry Christmas!

Edgar Meyer began studying bass at the age of five under the instruction of his father and continued further to study with Stuart Sankey. In 1994 he received the Avery Fisher Career Grant and in 2000 became the only bassist to receive the Avery Fisher Prize. Meyer's unparalleled technique and musicianship in combination with his gift for composition have brought him to the fore, where he is appreciated by a vast, varied audience. His uniqueness in the field was recognized by a MacArthur Award in 2002.
