Known as one of the finest pianists of the past half-century, Palmieri is a bandleader and composer who skillfully fuses the rhythm of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of his jazz influences: Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and salsa bandleader Charlie Palmieri, his older brother. An NEA Jazz Master, he was the recipient of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
