"What is really happening in Palestine and to Palestinians today?" This question is answered by Jinnah Evans in her honest and deeply moving memoir that looks back to the different events that brought her where she is today. Her spirit remains (as does her departed father's) anchored to her Palestinian homeland. Although long expatriated from Palestine, personal experience, family history and an acute sense of her birthright as a Palestinian has driven her to compose an exile's reconnection to native land in "Return to Palestine: One Woman's Journey". After numerous visits to her homeland, especially during the 1990s, she has recorded her people's current miseries from London, to Ramallah, to Jerusalem and similar places where they occur in Palestinian territories.

There have been few popular objective works about Palestinian history, much less ones that come from the viewpoint of its oppressed people. It has been the aftermath of 20th century strife that has cornered Palestinians into zones that are similar to the concept of Nazism's concentration camps. Many historical factors are involved, and all of them involve, on both Jewish and Palestinian sides, the betrayal of Western colonialism. Although Jinnah Evans strives to be apolitical, concentrating on personal and family history, politics cannot help but be factored into her life as a Palestinian.

History has repeated itself in modern times. The Romans, too, created refugees out of Jerusalem's destruction in 70 C.E. In modern times the diaspora has been of Palestinians-some of whom have native histories longer than the Romans'. Jinnah Evans' life and story is filled with many universal truths on living as political exiles which color everything about love, family and the human spirit. The last remains untrammelled and pristine for Evans-her extraordinary book tells readers how the human spirit becomes stronger and more sensitive if it has a history of oppression. "Return to Palestine: One Woman's Journey" is highly relevant reading for those who wish to know how the Palestinian heart beats in this most crucial century in human history whose central focus is on events in Palestine, Israel and the Middle East.
