Florida Studio Theatre is pleased to announce its selection as a finalist in several categories of the 2013 WEDU Be More Awards, presented by WEDU - West Central Florida's primary PBS station. The WEDU Be More Awards highlight the best work from area 501(c)(3) organizations. They have come to be known as the "Academy Awards for Nonprofits." Winners will be announced at the WEDU Be More Awards ceremony on February 21st.

The Children's Playhouse of Maryland, in residence at CCBC Essex, garnered two major awards at this year's invitational Junior Theater Festival. CPM's production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. captured the prestigious Freddy Gershon Award for Excellence in Music. Jamie Watson of Baltimore, (pictured left) as the Sea Witch Ursula, won the coveted Outstanding Female Performer award. Brad Bowers of Towson and Jamie Watson were named Festival Performing All Stars and Nick Logue of Essex and Tony Steiner of Baltimore were named Festival Technical Theatre All Stars.

Technical designer Daniel A. Perez, who will graduate from Yale University School of Drama in May, is the winner of the 2013 Frederick A. Buerki Golden Hammer Scenic Technology Award from USITT, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. Perez helped engineer the flying pink cotton candy cloud that Katy Perry sailed over the audience in her 2011 California Dreams tour, and designed the stage rigging system for Chaplin the Musical on Broadway this past September, among other work.

Gurney's Love Letters featuring real-life husband and wife duo Stephanie and Ben Adams as Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III who sit side by side and read the notes, letters and cards they have sent to each other for over 50 years. They share the dreams and desires, hopes and disappointments, victories and defeats that have passed between them throughout their separated lives. Tickets for Love Letters are $10.
