WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING Runs At Drama Theater 5/7-13

By: Mar. 25, 2009

Sydney Theatre Company and Medina Apartment Hotels presents Brink Productions'
WHEN THE RAIN STOPS FALLING by Andrew Bovell 7 May to 13 June 2009. Opens Monday 11 May 2009 at 8pm at Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House

The theatrical hit of the 2008 Adelaide Festival, When The Rain Stops Falling by Andrew Bovell, is a deeply moving and thought-provoking new Australian drama spanning four generations of one family, presented as part of Sydney Theatre Company's 2009 Main Stage Season. The production from Adelaide's Brink Productions, directed by Chris Drummond, combines the talents of leading stage and screenwriter Andrew Bovell (Lantana, Head On, Strictly Ballroom) with the designs of acclaimed visual artist Hossein Valamanesh. The season, featuring the original cast and creative team, is at Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre from 7 May to 13 June 2009, opening 11 May.

From the claustrophobia of a small 1950s London flat to the windswept coast of South Australia and into the heart of the Australian desert, When The Rain Stops Falling is set against a backdrop of a dramatically changing climate and an uncertain future. The play interweaves a series of connected stories, as seven people confront the mysteries of their past in order to understand their future, revealing how patterns of betrayal and abandonment are passed on.

When the Rain Stops Falling was commissioned, developed and premiered by Brink. Following the Sydney run, the production is at Sumner Theatre presented by Melbourne Theatre Company in association with Melbourne Festival from 7 October 2009. A new production of the play will reach an international audience, directed by Michael Attenborough at London's Almeida Theatre in May 2009.

When the Rain Stops Falling has won a swathe of production and script awards including a 2008 South Australian Ruby Award for Best Work, 2 Adelaide Critics' Circle Awards and both the Louis Esson Prize for Drama at the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards and the Queensland Premier's Literary Award for Drama Script (Stage). Director Chris Drummond. Designer Hossein Valamanesh. Composer Quentin Grant. Lighting Designer Niklas Pajanti. Video Design TheimaGen. Producer Kay Jamieson. Cast Paul Blackwell, Michaela Cantwell, Carmel Johnson, Kris McQuade, Yalin Ozucelik,
