MBCT; Modern But Classical Theatre will present MEDEA: A Tragedy of Revenge May 9-17 at the Flamboyán Theatre on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The classic Euripides work is the terrifying tale of a powerful sorceress wronged by her husband, ravaged by domesticity, and driven by revenge.

This production is heavily influenced by both the "German Expressionism" and "Film Noir" genres; sharp physical movements that convey the emotional extremes of the characters and a classic "black and white" look are just a few of the aspects that make this MEDEA a unique theatrical experience.

The cast features Ruthie Bornstein, Samantha Brown, Elizabeth Eggers, Marcie Grambeau, Laryn Stout (as Medea), and Matthew Wise (as Jason).

MEDEA is adapted and directed by MBCT Artistic Director Miriam Tobin. Joining her on the production team are Marcie Grambeau (composer/musical director), Amanda Jenks (costumes), Chikara Kakizawa (photography), Cameron Sheve (development), and Joshua Young (lighting/projections).

MEDEA will run Saturday May 9th to Sunday May 17th at the Flamboyán Theatre in the Clemente Soto Velez Center at 107 Suffolk Street (between Rivington and Delancey Streets). Performances May 9, and May 12-16 are all at 8pm; there is also a 3pm matinee on May 16 as well as 3pm performances on Sundays May 10th and 17th. Tickets for the May 9th and 10th preview performances are $15; tickets for all regular performances are $18 ($15 for students and seniors).

Modern But Classical Theatre (Miriam Tobin, Artistic Director) produces classic theatre for a modern audience by finding new and innovative ways of combining different styles and media for the stage and by forming an athletic ensemble of actors who use their bodies and voices to perform all types of characters, no matter their age, sex, race, or other physical qualities.
