Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the red-headed performer who currently plays Leaf Coneybear in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will join Jason Ritter in the pilot of a new comedy called "The Class." If picked up, the show will air on CBS.

The show concerns a reunion of old school chums as Ritter's character Ethan meets six of his friends from the third grade--where he met his current girlfriend. "The party then becomes the springboard for following how the lives of the reunited characters continue to intersect," according to a Reuters article. Ferguson will play one of the classmates--"a serious man going through a dark period in his life." Lucy Punch will also appear in the show.

Ferguson previously appeared on Broadway in On the Town and was recently seen in the Actors' Fund benefit concert of On the Twentieth Century. His off-Broadway credits include Where Do We Live?, Michael John LaChiusa's Little Fish, Newyorkers and Kean (as well as in the pre-Broadway On the Town at the Public Theatre).

Ritter, the son of the late John Ritter, recently appeared in Wendy Wasserstein's Third at Lincoln Center. His film and TV credits include Happy Endings, "Joan of Arcadia," Swimfan, Mumford and "Undressed."
