It's time to vote! Today the Adelaide Festival Centre opens its online public vote for the exciting new Walk of Fame. South Australians can now select the next artist who will have their name set in stone as part of this ground-breaking project. The public can now vote on their favourite star from 2016.

As part of the $90 million redevelopment project that commenced in 2016, the star-studded walkway will initially include more than 130 names of some of the greatest artists that have graced the stages of Adelaide Festival Centre.

Due to open in early 2018, the Walk of Fame will act as an East-West promenade along the River Torrens side of the complex, providing pedestrian access to the Dunstan Playhouse and Festival Theatre. The walk is set to become a major attraction in Adelaide's revitalised Riverbank precinct.

The public are encouraged to have their say and be a part of the selection process, deciding who will be recognised with stars embedded on the walkway. Each year three stars will be added to the Walk of Fame. In addition to the public choice, an additional two stars will be selected each year, one by the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust and one by a panel of critics, focusing specifically on Australian artists.

This year the public will vote for one artist who performed at Adelaide Festival Centre in 2016 from a list of more than 200 artists including Amy Lehpamer, Dita Von Teese, Billy Crystal, Marina Prior, Dami Im, and Sammy J.

Douglas Gautier, Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director: "Central to Adelaide Festival Centre's success are artists who are our history and our future. With Adelaide Festival Centre undergoing redevelopment, we will introduce new outdoor facilities and attractions along the Riverbank. What better way to enhance these features in a high traffic promenade than to acknowledge the artists who made Adelaide Festival Centre what it is today. The Walk of Fame will be a key attraction. This is a creative city, and the walk will tell our story. Last year, 10,000 people participated in the Walk of Fame's public vote and we invite everyone to now select the artist who will earn the 2016 popular vote star on Adelaide's Walk of Fame."

The Walk of Fame is supported by The Advertiser and will be launched today, accessible for voting at adelaidefestivalcentre.com.au/walk-of-fame

Lists of artists have been compiled by the Performing Arts Collection of South Australia in conjunction with partnering arts organisations.

Each voter will be entered into a competition for the chance to win a 2018 Adelaide Festival Centre Season Package which includes two A Reserve tickets to four Adelaide Festival Centre presented shows in 2017, including Adelaide Cabaret Festival and OzAsia Festival shows, valued at approximately $350.

Voting closes midnight Sunday 9 July 2017.
