Once again The Corinthian Singers begin the joyful 2016 Christmas season with their annual rendition of the glorious Handel's Messiah.

The Corinthians' performance of this ever popular oratorio gives the audience the chance to bring along their scores for The Messiah at 6.30pm Sunday 4 December, and sing the choruses with this acclaimed choir.

It's a wonderfully uplifting event which audience members and choir enjoy immensely, and everyone is encouraged to come along, even if they don't want to sing.

Maintaining the Christmas spirit the Corinthian Singers continue the celebrations of the nativity with A Child is Born. There will be two performances of A Child is Born, the first at 6.30pm Wednesday 14 and the second at 9pm Friday 16 December.

The centrepiece of A Child is Born is the magnificent Magnificat from Sergei Rachmaninoff's All Night Vigil. The movement contrasts a solemn exaltation of the Lord with joyous choirs of cherubim.

The nativity theme continues with works from Bach's O Little One Sweet and Howells Sing Lullaby through to modern works - Chilcott's The Shepherd's Carol and Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium. Lauridsen said of this work "I wanted this piece to resonate immediately and deeply into the core of the listener, to illuminate through sound."

Interspersed within the program the audience and choir join together in a joyful celebration of Christmas by singing much loved carols including Once in Royal David's City and Hark the Herald's Angel Sing.
