Blithe Spirit - 2014 - West End History , Info & More

Theatre legend, Oscar-winner and five-time Tony Award-winner Angela Lansbury returns to the West End this spring for the first time in nearly forty years, in a new production of Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit. Researching for his new novel, Charles Condomine (Charles Edwards) invites the implausible medium Madame Arcati (Angela Lansbury) to his house for a séance. Whilst consumed in a trance, Madame Arcati unwittingly summons the ghost of Charles' dead wife Elvira (Jemima Rooper). Appearing only to Charles, Elvira soon makes a play to reclaim her husband, much to the chagrin of Charles' new wife Ruth (Janie Dee). One husband, two feuding wives and a whisper of mischief in the air - who will win in Coward's unworldly comedy?

Angela Lansbury 'Likes the Idea' of Doing THE CHALK GARDEN
by Jillian Gaier - June 4, 2014

88-year-old Angela Lansbury does not seem to be retiring from the stage anytime soon. The Broadway vet may be set to take her final bow as Madame Arcati in West End's Blithe Spirit this weekend, but she has already expressed interest in taking on Enid Bagnold's THE CHALK GARDEN as her next project. 'I like the idea of doing Enid Bagnold's THE CHALK GARDEN,' she told the Telegraph. 'Now that is an interesting play. I also rather fancy the idea of a Restoration comedy.'
