THE HOBBIT Surpasses $200 Million Mark Worldwide; $100 Million in US

Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY continues to break box office records. According to Deadline.com, the worldwide total has now reached $270 million in a week, and $100.2 million after just five days in the U.S. THE HOBBIT holds the title of highest debut in movie history for the month of December.

Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY has officially broken box office records, earning an astounding $84.4 million in its first weekend. THE HOBBIT now holds the title of highest debut in movie history for the month of December. Will Smith's 2007 hit I AM LEGEND previously held the record with $77.2 million.

Tolkien enthusiast/super fan Stephen Colbert hosted a guest appearance from Sir Ian McKellan last night on the THE COLBERT REPORT on Comedy Central. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a 'knowledgeable source' has revealed that funnyman Stephen Colbert will make a cameo appearance in Peter Jackson's upcoming HOBBIT trilogy. The 'Colbert Report' host is a known J.R.R. Tolkien and Lord of the Rings fan who teased the possibility of a cameo in a recent interview with Playboy magazine.
