DOUBT: A PARABLE

Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions to complete the casting of the play Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley on SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 and SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 2022.

Doubt A Parable, by John Patrick Shanley, will be directed by Antonio Sonera.

Three roles are open, and all receive remuneration. Lakewood encourages diversity in casting and the directing team is strongly seeking artists of all races, cultural backgrounds, abilities, body types, and gender identities to audition for roles.

Callbacks will be held at the director's discretion.

Audition Location: Lakewood Theatre Company at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

Materials Needed:
• Please complete the online appointment sign-up at Lakewood-center.org.
• Please email a resume and headshot to bio@lakewood-center.org and note Doubt: A Parable and your LAST NAME in the subject line. Please bring both resume and headshot to your audition appointment as backup.
• Callbacks will be at the director's discretion.
• Conflicts not listed at the time of audition may not be honored.

Auditions:
• Each 1-hour audition appointment will provide 6 actors to sign up per time slot to read together as a group.
• Auditions will consist of a read from the script. Sides will be available on the website.
• Actors will be asked to complete an online audition form, including any rehearsal or performance conflicts and vaccination status.
• Actors will need to show proof of vaccination at audition when arriving for audition.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are scheduled to begin January 30, 2023. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Performance Schedule: Doubt: A Parable begins March 3, 2023, and continues through April 8, 2023. Performances are Thurs-Sat at 7:30 PM, Sundays, at 2:00 PM, one Saturday at 2:00 PM, and two Wednesday performances at 7:30 PM. Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

About the Play
Doubt: A Parable is a 2004 play by John Patrick Shanley. Originally staged off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club on November 23, 2004, the production transferred to the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway in March 2005 and closed on July 2, 2006, after 525 performances and 25 previews. The play won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. The play was adapted as a film, Doubt (2008). It starred Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Father Flynn. It was nominated for several Academy Awards.

The Story
The story takes place in 1964 in a Catholic school in the Bronx, New York. It begins when uncertainty strikes Sister James, a young sister who recently started teaching at the school. She is concerned that the relationship between a priest, Father Flynn, and a student may have become inappropriate and confides this fear to the principal, Sister Aloysius. Learning this concern, Sister Aloysius becomes determined to find out the truth about what happened and to protect the boy.
