Breakdown

Seeking the following:

THESUS/OBERON
(Male 30's-40's): As THESUS, he is a leader that must make tough choices and decisions, that do not always make him popular. And at times he knows it too. As OBERON, he is the quintessential over-grown "frat-boy" who never really graduated. As King of the Fairies, he is more Prince Hal than Henry V. This changes over the course of the play as he realizes his actions have caused more trouble than they are worth.

HIPPOLYTA/TITANIA
(Female Late 20's-40's): As HIPPOLYTA she is the infamous Queen of the Amazons, being dominated by Thesus' rule. She say's a lot with her eye's and mannerisms as well as her soon-to-be-husband's decisions. TITANIA takes her role as Queen of the Faries very seriously, she is working to establish order and principles, while Oberon is undoing them. Over the course of the evening her attitude somewhat changes as well.

PHILOSTRATE/PUCK
(Male early to late 20's): PHILOSTRATE keeps everything in order for Thesus, and takes his role very seriously. As PUCK while he is extremely mischievous, he knows his place when Oberon is around--and enjoys pulling pranks with him (and making some of his own).

EGEUS/PETER QUINCE
(Male, mid 30's to 50's): EGEUS wants things in order, and is very controlling of who his daughter will marry (Actor's Challenge: why?). PETER QUINCE wants to put on the best show possible. That is his goal. But knows he has to deal with what actors, props, scenery and other obstacles that get thrown in any great director's way to bring out a great production.

NICK BOTTOM
(Male 30's-40's): Like Quince, he wants the best show possible and pushes for it…and everyone's buttons too. Bottom has played every lead role in every play he has been in, so people think he is the "go-to-actor" for any advice on theatrical matters.

ROBIN STARVELING/COBWEB
(Male 20s-40s): Would rather not be in the play (especially when he is told he'll be playing a mother), but is there for the company. COBWEB is a Fairy.

TOM SNOUT/MOTH
(Male 30s-40s): Gets casted as the Father to Pyramus and Thisbe. but ends up playing the Wall--he is a good collaborator like that. MOTH is a Fairy.

FRANCIS FLUTE/PEASEBLOSSOM
(Male in early 20's): FLUTE is ready to play action hero's and leading men…but is given the woman's role instead. He really wants to be an actor, so does comitt himself fully to the role, despite disappointment as having to play Thisbe. PEASEBLOSSOM is yes, a Fairy.

SNUG/MUSTERSEED
(Male , any age as long as is lovable): SNUG is simple and sweet dreamer. He wants to do a good job, and knows his limitations so asks to study his part early. As MUSTERSEED he is the same way.

HERMIA
(Female, 20's): Egeus's daughter, and is in love with Lysander, and childhood friend of Helena. Is very pretty, but is suspicious of anyone who gets too close to her man.

HELENA
(Female, 20's-early 30's): In love with Demetrius…not confident in her looks, but makes every effort she can to make herself appealing to Demetrius…even if it means imitating a dog in front of him.

LYSANDER
(Male 20's): In total love with Hermia. Bookish, total nerd…doesn't look like Hermia material, but looks can be deceiving. A bit shy, but really shows his bravado when confronting Egeus and coming up with a plan to escape into the woods.

DEMETRIUS
(Male 20's): The guy who has it all…looks, women throwing themselves at him. He never has to work to get the lady, but does like a good competition. Is in love with Hermia at the beginning of the play.

Actors of all races and ethnicities encouraged to attend the auditions.
