WASHINGTON, D.C. -The Washington School of Ballet (TWSB) is touring the country to hold auditions for its rigorous five week Summer Intensive program, a course that gives students from around the world the opportunity to study with acclaimed faculty.

During Summer Intensive, classes are conducted at The Washington School of Ballet's Northwest Washington, DC campus Monday through Friday. As a result of the intensive training, students are able to progress rapidly and increase their abilities significantly in a relatively short time. Classes include classical ballet technique, pointe work, variations, pas de deux, men's classes, flamenco, character, jazz, contemporary, pilates and student choreography. Students will have the opportunity to learn repertoire and be a part of a culminating performance in the fifth week which will highlight their accomplishments.

"Students who train with us are well prepared to enter the professional field. Many dancers go on to join ballet companies and others are accepted to top universities and colleges because of their training with The Washington School of Ballet," says Kee Juan Han, Director of The Washington School of Ballet.

TWSB provides a housing dorm program for Summer Intensive students at the American University. It is not required that students live at the dorm, although it is highly recommended due to the rich experience of cultural excursions, outings and companionship of their peers from around the world. Students must be age 13 by the start of the program in order to reside at American University dormitories.

Students participating in Summer Intensive will take part in placement classes on the first day of the program. While summer classes will be arranged by age, placement is based on technical ability and appropriate strength for syllabus material. Levels are not determined at the time of audition.

To audition for The Washington Ballet's Summer Intensive program, students must arrive with an audition form, $35 fee and two photographs. Auditions are required for the Summer Intensive program.
