New production, in coproduction with the Rome Opera and the Teatro Carlo Goldoni of Livorno
1905: Pietro Mascagni, figurehead of the Verismo with his meteoric Cavalleria rusticana, offers his new opera to the public of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Became an absolute rarity, Amica yet met to create a huge success among the public and the critics.
The creation at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, under the musical direction of the composer, is running the whole of Europe. The first Italian (on a new libretto in Italian) was held at the Teatro Constanzi in Rome two months later. Despite a favourable reception, this tragedy home recounting the tragic love rivalry of two brothers for a same wife, then disappears from the Opera.
The only opera by Pietro Mascagni on a libretto in French, is a drama of the mountains, bitter and passionate. Never more than at the beginning of the 20th century, lyrical art and 7th art is look so much. A new idea of the natural, a period comparable to that of a feature film, a contemporary and concise history (the action takes place in Savoy around 1900) Amica is an opera able to seduce the audience of today thanks his obvious film perfume.
