Last night mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton won the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World title, one of the most prestigious prizes in the classical music industry.

On Friday, she also won the contest's world song prize, which is given to the best performer of art song with piano accompaniment. The main prize is awarded for singers' own choice of opera and concert repertoire with a symphony orchestra.

It's only the second time in the award's 30-year history that the same singer has lifted both trophies. Jamie was one of the 20 singers from across the globe selected for the competition.

Jamie Barton performed with Ars Lyrica in the 2010 New Year's Eve's concert, A NEAPOLITAN NEW YEAR, the 2011-2012 season opener, LA DIRINDINA, and in a number of gala performances. She is also featured in title roles on Ars Lyrica's most recent recordings: the Grammy-nominated disc of J. A. Hasse's ANTONIO E CLEOPATRA, and Alessandro Scarlatti's LA DIRINDINA. Both recordings can be purchased directly through Ars Lyrica's website.
