L.A. Master Chorale Tickets Now On Sale; Jenny Wong Promoted to Associate Conductor
Single tickets for the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 2017/18 season are now on sale. The season opens on September 23 and continues through to June 2018 in Walt Disney Concert Hall with nine concert programs presented over this time. Tickets start at $29 and are available to purchase online from lamasterchorale.org, by phone from 213-972-7282, or in person from the box office at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at The Music Center, of which the Master Chorale is a resident company. It will be the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 54th concert season and Grant Gershon's 17th season as the Kiki and David Gindler Artistic Director.
The new season includes the solo Disney Hall conducting debut of Jenny Wong whose title has been elevated from Assistant Conductor to Associate Conductor. Wong will conduct the December 10 concert of Bach's six motets. Wong was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Master Chorale in 2016 for a two-year post. She has conducted works on the Festival of Carols, Wade in the Water, and Lux Aeterna concert programs, and also led the Master Chorale's chamber ensemble at the High School Choir Festival and at the second-term inauguration ceremony for Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti. Most recently she prepared the chorus for performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. A native of Hong Kong, Wong has conducted and performed in Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, China, and across the United States. She was recently appointed Interim Choirmaster of All Saints Church in Pasadena.
"Jenny Wong is a brilliant and deeply committed musician. She has quickly become an integral part of our team at the Master Chorale and this title change reflects her expanded role with the organization," said Gershon. "I believe that Jenny has an extremely bright future as a conductor and I'm pleased that we can provide her with more opportunities to make music with our phenomenal singers."
Another personnel change in the 2017/18 season is that the Los Angeles Master Chorale now has 100 fully professional singers, making it among the largest professional choral ensembles in the world. Previously a blend of professional and supplemental singers, chorister positions are highly sought-after and the Master Chorale is a diverse and vocally dynamic group showcasing the many voices of L.A. This message is amplified in the 2017/18 season marketing materials that feature singers photographed and filmed around the city.<
The Los Angeles Master Chorale's 2017/18 season opens on Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24 with Carl Orff's popular Carmina Burana depicting medieval revelry. These concerts will feature the full roster of 100 singers and a full orchestra conducted by Gershon. Guest soloists are So Young Park (soprano), Nicholas Phan (tenor), and Stephen Powell (baritone) and features the Los Angeles Children's Chorus. The program opens with Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms presented as part of the worldwide "Bernstein at 100" celebrations.
