Algonquin Theater Productions Releases Unusual Marketing Strategy For THE PAPARAZZI

'The Paparazzi' is a new musical about the tabloid news industry dominated by the fictional paper, the New York Beacon. In keeping with the premise, Algonquin Theater Productions has chosen to advertise its upcoming public readings on social media with a series of satirical, eye catching fake headlines. Each one features a member of the cast with a famous celebrity.

1984 Comes Brings Big Brother to Reckless Theatre

Viewed through the eye of the Party, this take on Orwell's frighteningly relevant novel leaves behind the narrative of Winston and Julia, instead exploring the world, themes, and peripheral characters. It asks the audience to question their own relationship to truth, indoctrination, sex, community, and torture. War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, Tragedy is Comedy. Fridays and Saturdays July 28th-August 5th, the cast performs 1984. They will perform 2 shows on Friday, July 28th; Saturday, July 29th; and Friday, August 4th at 7:30 and 9:30pm, with the closing performance on Saturday August 5th at 7:30pm. Directed by Tom Kelley and Anne Veal, 1984's cast is pulled from the company and student body of Reckless Theatre, founded and directed by Christian Capozzoli, ranked one of the top five improv comedy clubs in NYC by TimeOut New York.

The 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals, presented by the National Alliance For Musical Theatre (NAMT), kicked off with THE 46TH MINUTE, a concert hosted by Lindsay Mendez and featuring performances by Heidi Blickenstaff, Doreen Montalvo, Mamie Parris, Bryce Ryness, and more. Musical presentations started October 23 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) and included Beautiful Poison, Cubamor, Great Wall, How To Break, Mary Marie, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes, String and Stu For Silverton. The National Alliance For Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced casting for the additional concerts and events surrounding their 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals. Today, October 22nd the Festival kicks off with The 46th Minute, a concert featuring cut songs and new material from all eight 26th Annual Festival of New Musicals selections, followed by The 2014 Songwriters Showcase on October 23rd and The Songwriters Sessions on October 23rd and 24th, all at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

Inc. will present a special exploratory reading of the 1969 musical comedy The Fig Leaves Are Falling as part of The Archival Project, a UMC initiative aimed at researching, assembling and restoring the material from unpublished and out-of-print musical shows. Featuring John Bolton (Curtains, Spamalot), Troy Britton Johnson (The Drowsy Chaperone), Natalie Venetia Belcon (Avenue Q) and Cortney Wolfson (Legally Blonde, The Addams Family), the reading will be held on July 29 at 3pm at Manhattan Theatre Club's Creative Center, 311 West 43rd Street.
