At Your Convenience!
The Curve in Leicester is to present the UK premier of the fabulous musical 'Urinetown'.
This is one of the most fabulously original new musicals to be seen in years.
Bring this to town but get to Leicester just in case!

Due on stage early 2010.

Sorry, but i gotta pee!

DAMMIT.

Don't get me wrong, I love Urinetown, and I love the Curve, but Leicester is the very devil itself. I am saddened that I have to go there again. re: At Your Convenience!

The original Broadway cast and production was the funniest musical theatre event I ever experienced. I only hope this production preserves some of the brilliant sight gags in the show. When a production company is Chicago tried to use some of the same comedic moments, they were sued by the creators.

I still have my souvenir water bottle from the Broadway production - I just couldn't resist drinking from a bottle that had "Urine" printed on the label!

This is another one that I've been dying to see but just never seem to be able to get that chance. Hopefully this will work out for me.

I know this has a good reputation but haven't heard the OBC.

Pleased that Twinks has another interesting show to mark as a notch in his bedpost.

Weez is right about Leicester though - the city is even worse than Bradford.

I would love to see this show but may have to wait for a transfer - sorry to any Leicester-ites!

Sort of on-topic: I'm aware that a few shows seem to have previewed in Plymouth and Bristol in recent years but historically does anyone have any info on how often they are chosen as pre-West End tryout venues compared to other cities in the UK? (Obviously I mean shows with WE aspirations which play only one venue rather than touring several).
Seen some shows in my time....

I think it's a slightly different system from Broadway try-outs.

Here, the regional venue is normally involved in some form of co-production before the transfer. Certainly with Plymouth, there are extensive set construction facilities. Likewise, Leicester will build the show before it transfers on. Normally, the have a stake in the West End run/ national tour. Plymouth is certainly a launching place for many tours, including in recent times, Mary Poppins and Quadrophenia.

Is this the sorta thing that is likely to end up in the West End? Cos I love the show, but don't know where Leicester is!

Leicester is in the vicinity of Birmingham and it's the very devil itself to drive to. Might risk the trains for Urinetown; not a fan of them for longer journeys either, but at least I can read...

I would be SHOCKED if it went to the West End. It's a brilliant show, and obviously we can't cast any aspersions on this production yet, but it's not exactly the next Dirty Dancing. See it in Leicester or forever wish you had!

Thanks for the info my fellow devonian (I assume!). I've been to a few shows in Bristol and Plymouth over the years and always counted myself lucky they were in my neck of the woods (even though I'm far more likely to undertake a six hour round-trip to London to see a show) - I guess I should be more supportive of regional theatre? :o

But then again I've been guilty of spending more time and money seeing shows on Broadway in recent years and have somewhat ignored the wonders of the West End.... until Priscilla lured me back and made me realise what I'd been missing (have booked and/or seen quite a few other shows since)! :-0

Anyway back on-topic, I have heard lots of good things about Urinetown so I'm really hopeful for a transfer. Anyone know anything more concrete?
