Well, if anyone fancies a BWW outing, I'm up for it, but these are two shows where I wouldn't want to go on my own. Apparently I do have my limits! re: Sex In The City

Post-September 5th works wonders for me! (As long as the shows are still happening, of course; it is the Arts Theatre we're talking about! XD) Pencil it in, y'all. :3

I caught the double-bill when I was in London this weekend.

Fcuking Men
This gay version of La Ronde stretched the concept a bit too thin for my liking. Perhaps they should have made it a gay hexagon instead. The play started off well enough with well drawn characters and interesting ideas but some of the later characters (the playwright, the film actor and the guy who folds his clothes) were tired cliches who offered little of interest.

By way way of performances it was interesting to see Scott Capuro who I remember from his comedy circuit in the 1990s doing a serious role. And Stephen Butler (who would later show up in NBS) did well with the ambiguities of an over-sexualised and over-confident adolescent who wasn't as clever as he thought.

Naked Boys Singing
This was infinitely better than the straight version that was at the Lowry a couple of years ago. They stuck to the original and better material from the US version. The additional concept of it being about auditions/call-backs and performance was unnecessary and didn't achieve anything but the idea of having the guys keep their clothes on for the first two thirds of the show achieved a lot. The gradual revelation of bodies served to emphasise that this show (unlike the straight version) is not just gratuitous nudity but is also about attitudes to nudity as well. Perhaps it should have gone further and challenged the audience with coventionally unattractive bodies?

All the performances were consistently fine. Conleth Kane had the most conventionally fit and athletic body and also the longest cock. Stephen Butler and Joe van Haeften, being of shorter and more stocky build, proved that height and length of penis are not necessarily proportional whilst David Lucas proved that he was a tenor and not a castrato. However my biggest respect goes to Duncan Leighton, Matthew Russell-Jones and Adam Mendlesohn who, in a society obsessed by size, were brave enough to stand up to conventional thinking and reveal small flaccid penises. Indeed for Adam, as he stood legs and arms wide apart, his ball sack tight and possibly a bit of shrinkage, it seemed as if he was going through some kind of personal inner revelation as well.

The show is about nudity, it invites us to purchase tickets on that basis and I've decided to review it as such!!

I wasn't having a go Boybooshka.re: Sex In The City

I just got bored with the reviews that tip-toed tentatively around the subject when the production's ethos is to try and blow those inhibitions.

Has anybody seen the film of naked boys singing? Personally think it's quite well done translation of the show to film, with a very cute cast.
