I read the article on WoS just now and thought that it meant the show would transfer across soon after its Broadway opening. Did I read wrong?

The 2 emails I've had is that its coming to London first and then Broadway.
The original plan for Broadway first got lost somewhere between the March LA run and New York!
As I said it could do really well here.
The movie was huge in the UK.
The Young Vic Theatre Company toured a stage version of the film back in the mid 80s to great acclaim so UK audiences do like the material.

The movie was released on DVD last year for the first time and is so worth getting.

Never seen the movie. What's it about?
Any idea of a timeframe for the show opening?

As much as I love a Charles Strouse score I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Wasn't the movie a success over here because of Norman Wisdom's presence in it. And Charles Strouse London premieres don't have a track record of success (I and Albert, Flowers for Algernon, Nightingale).

But having said that, that was all a long time ago. What really matters is the quality of the writing, production and cast.

And from a selfish point of view I hope it does come here first - I'd been holding off on a trip to NY in the hope that this would transfer to Broadway and I could combine a trip with seeing B'ways Billy E.

So here's hoping for a big hit in London for Mr Strouse.

I dunno. I didn't pay attention to what the LA critics said about this one (on the assumption that out-of-town critics are as hopeless in the US as the ones in the UK: correct me if I'm wrong).

Never seen the movie but I really want to see this show! I've never heard a Charles Strouse score I have not loved - including all the flops! (Even "Dance A Little Closer", which the critics dubbed "Close A Little Faster" after it closed after opening night, has a really stunning score.) In fact, IMO, the least strong of all his scores is "Annie", which is his biggest hit. Go figure.

After reading his autobiography I have even more respect for Charles Strouse.Even some of his flops have better scores than some of the drivel you can see at the moment on broadway or the west end.Rags is a great score. Anyone else or is that just me

Us lot had a great chat about him on a separate thread dedicated to him last year.
I'll try and revive it?

Love his work!

I saw Rags at the Bridewell with Sally Ann T. There are some tremendous songs in it. Dance A Little Closer also has some great songs in it as well - I think you can get a naughty film of this as well as I've seen somewhere the gay airline pilots' ice-skating sequence.

I would love Chris Fitzgerald to cross over with the project- he was the best thing about Young Frankenstein!

Bearing in mind things develop and change as has been proved countless times, here are a selection of the reviews received in it's 'out of town' run.
