Help for cake???#1
Posted: 5/4/09 at 4:14pm
Hey guys, please help me out. I'm currently doing some research for my dissertation (a bloody drama school where you have to write a dissertation grrrr) which is based around casting in theatre, and it would really help me out if you could fill out my survey out online. It won't take long to fill in, and it would really help me out!

Anyone can fill it out, but if there any black people on here able to fill it out it would be an extra special help to me!!!

The link to the survey is listed below:

http://FreeOnlineSurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=394cdj1d446q1l5590154

thanks darlings!!!!

I have done the survey for you. I would say you need a not sure (or similar) option for some of the questions where you have only given yes/no

I filled it in too. But there was no alternative that was correct for me regarding how often I go to the theatre. I see about 50 shows a year but I don't go "weekly" or "monthly" etc. I may go months without seeing anything, and then see 6 shows in one week!

I have done it too.

I am the same with the shows thing, as I live a long way from London so see them in concentrated little blocks every now and then! I picked once a month but it's actually more like twice a month if you average it over a year...

I couldn't really answer some of them I'm afraid but I did my best!

I did it as well. ^^ It was interesting. I have to admit that I haven't really made up my mind about such stuff so far. The only occasion where I consciously noticed this topic (colour-blind casting) was when I saw, that in the newest adaption of Oliver Twist (the 2007 BBC production) the role of Nancy was cast with coloured actress Sophie Okonedo. And although I really adore her as an actress and she did quite a good job on playing Nance (she was adorable - could've hugged her *g*) I found it kind of odd somehow... It might even have been justfiable considering that there actually were black people (slaves) in the UK of that time but anyway... I don't think that it was in Dicken's mind to have a coloured Nancy.

But apart from that I have no objections against colour-blind casting, especially in musicals! I think it's a different matter there and can work perfectly fine (if it fits the whole context).

I've done it. I worry I may have come across a little bit racist in it, but I'm honestly not.
