Musical Video Games?#1
Posted: 1/13/09 at 1:50pm
Just saw this article about the Really Useful Group developing video games based on the musicals by Andrew Lloyd-Webber. Apparently, they are going to involve singing as the characters (and a possible audition-type process). What do you guys think? Would you play a game like this?

I would TOTALLY play a game like this! I've been a fan of rhythm games since Bust-A-Groove, Parappa the Rapper, and Vib-Ribbon, so it's awesome to see crossover potential like this! As an advocate of Singstar for social gatherings, I've long been dreaming of Broadway Singstar, worrying that I might just have to settle for Disney and Abba instead. (I also have a High School Musical singalong game, courtesy of my sister. XD)

There was an article on BBC News the other day about how video games are a pretty important future for music artists; as a musical theatre lover and as a gamer, I can't wait for the crossover to happen. It'll be so nice to not have to settle for shoving my cast recordings into Vib-Ribbon. :3

No music game will ever be as awesome as Gitaroo Man though.

I'd be all over a showtune version of Rock Band/Karaoke Revolution.

It may even motivate me to buy a console.

Which brings up the mandatory question of when we're going to have the BWW WE Karaoke Night?

I've yet to try the Singstar games, but I have to admit I do think this is a fun idea.

They should do a Disney vs Rest of the World Street Fighter type of game... Rest of the Musical World... and their special "finish him" can be what they're known for... y'know, having the Phantom drop the Chandelier on Scar and smash him.
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Oh my gosh I would LOVE this!
I'm a gamer anyway, but I like stuff like Guitar Hero and have always wanted a Showtune Singstar. I'd buy this in a heartbeat!
