A Whole Lot Of Shakespeare Going On!#1

A Whole Lot Of Shakespeare Going On!

Yet another Shakespeare production is on its way to town in the near future with a star name attached.
The Young Vic is to be home to Pete Postlethwaite in the Liverpool Playhouse /Everyman Theatre production from Jan 2009 for two months. Its not often a production transfers prior to even opening on its original run but this will certainly be up there with the big sellers in town.
The actor has declared the role to be the most terrifying job he has ever done!

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

We never would have guessed!

Didn't this sell out in Liverpool like 3 months ago?

Certainly a number of weeks ago, they only have day seats available. Which doesn't really matter; my family are going to Liverpool before it even opens so it had to transfer for me to stand a chance.

Shakespeare + Rupert Goold = <3

I've only ever seen Pete Postlethwaite direct and star in a very lacklustre Macbeth at the Bristol old Vic about 10 years ago - a memorably long and painful evening.

But as everyone seems very excited, maybe I should give him another chance...

I'd hardly say that me being the giddy fangirl I am counts as everyone being all excited. re: A Whole Lot Of Shakespeare Going On!

But then, I think most highly of Rupert Goold. I enjoyed his 'Tempest' back in the days when I was still puzzled as to why people enjoyed this Shakespeare chappy, and he managed to make 'Macbeth' interesting for me on a level it has never been and I doubt it ever will be again. When competently directed by a good director ("insuperable" is the word I'm using this week ^_^), there is surely a limit to how dull an actor can possibly make a piece. Give the 'Lear' a bash, and if you hate it, you can blame me. re: A Whole Lot Of Shakespeare Going On!

Why can't you behave?

I was very excited to see that Ian McKellen's King Lear is coming out on dvd next week. I hope that is an indication that Tennant's Hamlet might also get a release.

Give the 'Lear' a bash, and if you hate it, you can blame me

That sounds fair re: A Whole Lot Of Shakespeare Going On! I think many of the problems with the BOV Macbeth were bizarre (or possibly lack of) direction, so the fact that Lear has someone else at the helm makes it all seem a little more palatable!

"Murder is a very British thing, isn't it? I mean, it's almost like a hobby over there."
"Why do you insist you must hear the words? When you know I cannot give you words. Not the ones you need..."
