A Catered Affair is closing.

I know it lucked out at the Tonys, but it seemed to be doing ok business. Personally I loved it and the house seemed very respectable.

I know someone who'll be very cross.

I certainly am.

Especially sad because Fierstein had said in his blog just two days ago that he thought it could run on a fair while after the Tony Awards, as it had out-grossed most other shows on Broadway in recent weeks.
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Let's hope that, like Parade and Caroline or Change, it still gets a West End showing where it finds a more appreciative audience.

I have to say though, I thought those character sketches in the publicity made it look more like a 1960s episode of Coronation Street rather than 1960s Brooklyn.

(not that I know owt about what 1960s Brooklyn was like)

1960s Coronation Street

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
