Then when i got the CD i could get past that overture! Sounds like the overture to some 70s disaster movie like 'The Poseidon Adventure' or 'Earthquake'!!! Dire show with great voices!!

That song, 'The Morning After' has a glorious new version in 'Priscilla-The Musical'- its fab on the CD.
'There's Got To Be A Morning After,
There's Gotta Be...... SPLASH'

I quite liked The Color Purple when I saw it n Broadway. In fact, the Overture is the most played song from that CD on my iPod. Oh well!

I came out of the theatre thinking that the cast were great, and that the music was good, but I could hardly remember a single line of the lyrics. It tells a tale.
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

It was an amazing performance that we saw in LA with an amazing cast.

I saw the national tour when it came here to Chicago. I think it is a very good show, but I also think that the biggest problem with the show is that the songs really are not songs you can sing along to/with. If that makes sense.
Rant, Wickud, Rant, Wickud, Rant! We're not gonna pay Rant! 'Cause everythink is Wickud!

I hate bitty designs. This lacked coherence and style. Rather like half the score.

Seen it - didn't really care for it. At the time I had never read the book or seen the film and the show seemed to assume that you were familiar with the story. I found the score bitty and bland - I like 'unhummable' music, but this was just . . . blah.

I've since read the book and loved it, a shame the musical wasn't as focused or powerful.
