Sound of Music closing?#1

According to Wikipedia, it says that it's scheduled to close in April 2008, a month after Connie Fisher leaves the show? Is this official? I find that disappointing because there are hundreds of talented girls who could succeed her. I always thought they would get Emma Williams to succeed Connie after she goes.

And why would Emma go to the show when she's left the show?

well it will pull the crowds but i think its miss casting.

Guess it depends when it starts but she is booked in for a concert tour next year, plus according to her some tv work when she leaves SOM.

As for SOM, rumour is Summer Strallen takes over from her (currently seen in Hollyoaks) ill be amazed if SOM closes just coz connie leaves.

Its got its money back!
It would have run 18 months which is very respectable in a house that size!
Its an RUG house and 'Priscilla is looking for (well it has to go to) a RUG house!
Perfect timing!
Lets wait and see what happens here guys!

For such a popular show it seems to be very few years on the run ! How long did Joseph Last?

About 3- 4 years, I think. It's a big old auditorium to fill over that time.

There are so many of the Palladium shows over the years that have closed while still hugely popular. Its one of those theatres that is know for a fast turnout of shows. 'Barnum' 'Singing In The Rain' 'The King And I' 'Chitty' and many others all closed while still doing very good business. Both "Barnum' and 'Singing In The Rain' returned for more seasons.
Its a venue that attracts producers to present a major new shows there due its world reputation. Its always had that reputation since Yul Brynner did 'The King And I' there back in the mid 70s.
The showbiz saying is/was 'You havent made it 'till you've played the Palladium'

I remember seeing Michael Crawford slide down from the circle. Great show, but I think it worked even better at the VP.

Oliver! also closed whilst still profitable, as I recall.

Barnum. As much as i was amazed by seeing the show at the Palladium when it opened. (i remember seeing a very very nervous Harold Fielding at the back of the stalls at the 2nd preview (Sat matinee)) it seemed to come into its own at the VP and looked great there- just a tad smaller. The DVD is one the few that work i think.
It had a third West End season but was a little less successful this time, at the Dominion with Paul Nicholas.

I saw that Dominion show. Diminishing returns or what?

Did you ever get to see Peter Duncan's big top tour? I remember bumping into him at a scenery store in West London, hearing about the plan and thinking at the time, 'could be a winner'. Shows what I know!

And this one's bugging me- you'll know the answer: Andrew _____ What was the name of the TV comedian who toured it a couple of years later, with little success?
