'Marlene' to return to West End#1
Posted: 11/6/07 at 8:46am
The Olivier Award winning play 'Marlene' by Pam Gems is to return to London next summer for a 6 week season. 'Marlene' with Sian Phillips last played the Lyric on Shaftesbury Ave before moving to Broadway. Its due to play 4 weeks around the country and they hope to get the Vaudeville or Garrick. Sian Phillips is quiet something in this play.
AND she's the only 'Legally Blonde' to proberbly play the West End next year!

Sian Phillips is at the moment doing a tour of one nighters across the country and at every one she has had requests to bring 'Marlene' back in some form or another. Some of these theatres have indeed taken the short tour next year for a week. So yes it is Sian doing it again and of course she is now nearer the age that we all see Marlene as.

Not Jane Horrocks, that's for sure.

You may raise an eyebrow, but I'd like to see the wondrous Linzi Hately have a go.

Caroline O'Connor did PIAF in Melbourne a few years ago very successfully. Sian Phillips could do MARLENE forever, after all Marlene did until she fell into the orchestra pit in Sydney and broke her hip.

The London staging of Caroline O'Conners show about Judy Garland has gone very quiet recently.

As far as I remember she also fell of the stage at Wimbledon Theatre - and carried on singing !
