Does anyone know what the job of a dance captain is ? Is it a during-the-show function or a rehearsal part ?

If I'm not entirely wrong, a dance captain is some sort of a substitute for the choreographer who's present from the very beginning of production-related preaparations. Meaning he's not only helping the cast during rehearsals but giving support should there be any problems with steps or moves in a certain dance sequence.

A dance captain will usually take warm-ups with the company, check routines are polished and as they should be, will be in contact with the associate choreographer letting them know of any problems and just making sure that the dancing is how the choreographer set it.

The Dance Captain also rehearses with incoming castmembers.
How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

I know that on some productions as well, the dance captain will stand backstage and do the routine thats being done on the stage and talk the dancers through the dance steps as they are doing them (through the performers ear pieces)
