Telegraph - Charles Spencer
***

Bill T Jones' musical shows Fela Kulti's fascinating life story, but the production doesn't achieve a satisfying dramatic momentum.

Guardian - Michael Billington
****
It's a great story, and one told with enormous verve in Bill T Jones's kaleidoscopic production. The dancing is ecstatic, the music lifts the spirits, and the stage is alive with movement.

This is London - Henry Hitchings
****
Exuberance is the keynote of the National Theatre's new musical. Arriving in London after huge success on Broadway, it's a loud, brash, energetic spectacle.

P.S. I can't believe the whatsonstage review. Calling Sahr Ngaujah uncharismatic. He is brilliant!

Got a gut feeling this will win The Olivier.

1 - It comes across as a very highbrow show.

2 - It has already closed.

2 things The Olivier judging commitee love!

Limited run. It'll have closed by the awards.

I think Love Story could take it if it's anywhere near as good as the Chichester reviews suggest, more so because it's British. If Betty Blue Eyes is any good (hopefully) I don't think it'll open in time for the 2011 awards.

What competition do they have, though? Seriously? It's been a ****e year for musicals.

Really must go and see Fela. Not sure it'll be my cup of tea but definitely worth giving a go.

I so nearly bought a cheapy for this today when I was at the NT bookshop. Luckily I had left my Debit card in a jacket at home, and only had a tenner left for the rest of the day. I say luckily, because I have no money. This show intrigues me so much! I really hope I can get a ticket to this before the run ends, if not, looks like its NT live for me!
