Whoopi's Whirlwind West End Nun (sorry, Run)
Whoopi Goldberg is now confirmed to make her West End stage debut.
She will star as 'Mother Superior' in 'Sister Act -The Musical' at the London Palladium for a limited season only.
10th Aug to 31st Aug 2010.
Goldberg will not perform the Monday performances.

Whoopi Goldberg shot to fame with her Oscar-nominated performance in Steven Spielberg’s 'The Color Purple', before embarking on a prolific Hollywood career with films such as 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash', 'Ghost', 'Soapdish', 'The Lion King', 'How Stella Got Her Groove Back' and, of course, 'Sister Act' and its sequel.
Her Broadway stage credits include 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum', 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' and, most recently, 'Xanadu'.

Whoopi follows Sheila Hancock, who created the role and has played Mother Superior since the show opened in May 2009.
The show continues to feature Patina Miller in the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi’s role in the original movie), recording artist Simon Webbe as Curtis Shank and 'Dads Army' star Ian Lavender as Monsignor.

'Sister Act -The Musical' opened at the London Palladium on 2 June 2009.
Previewed from 7th May.
The London production will close on 30th Oct 2010 prior to a planned Broadway opening in early 2011.

It is expected that Goldberg will star in the New York production for a limited time from its opening.

Based on the 1992 film, the stage musical has music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner.

It is directed by Peter Schneider, designed by Klara Zieglerova, choreography by Anthony Van Laast, lighting by Natasha Katz, sound by Mick Potter, Musical Director Nick Skilbeck.

It is produced by Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment.

************
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun she quickly finds fans amongst her fellow ‘sisters’ but makes the wrong impression on the convent’s strict Mother Superior. When she turns her attention to the convent’s off-key choir, helping the nuns to find their true voices and breathing new life into the rundown neighbourhood, her cover could be blown for good. With the gang giving chase, is time running out for Deloris? Or have they underestimated the power of her new found Sisterhood?

Seats for her stint were gonna be hiked up to somewhere in the region of 90 each. I'm sure it will sell well but to ask that much to see her in a very small part is taking the piss.
July and August of last year were the shows best selling weeks so there fore would have probably ticked along this year too. It has struggled on an almost weekly business during its entire run.
