GOD how it pains me to post this, but....

an announcement of the London transfer is to made in the next 3 weeks.
All they need is the final contact from the theatre they have.
An October opening is planned.

RIGHT!

I despised ROA when I first heard about it. I was like ugh, it wasn't even on my to see list when I went to New York.

THEN
I saw the Tony performance and thought hmm this might actually be alight. So I kept it in mind

THEN
I got rush tickets

And I LOVED IT!!!
ALOT.
.
.
.
.
And I wasn't even drunk!!!

Is that artwork meant to be self-consciously naff or is it just naff?
Seen some shows in my time....

I'd also take a guess at the Noel Coward or Apollo.

The thing about Rock Of Ages for me is... I love cheesy 70s/80s rock music, so it's right up my street. More so than We Will Rock You (although I obviously like Queen) because it clearly doesn't take itself in the slightest bit seriously.

peaches, I'd prefer to look at it more positively. It's not just that the West End's musical market is terrible - it's that the plays on at the moment are so awesome.

Before I saw this in New York I was looking forward to going, as I listened to a lot 'glam/pop' rock in my old days, but my enthusiasm was dented when I went. however i hope to see this again, when I went to the Brooke Atkinson Theatre, New York I had a appalling view right on the right hand of the orchestra (stalls), I had a bad partial view, which I found irritating, I am sure this diminished my enjoyment for this show.

However I am going to give Rock of Ages the benefit of the doubt and see this again.

I love Rock of Ages! Great songs, hilarious show, and the Broadway cast performed the music brilliantly. If you know the music and you're not a fan, then do not go. It will not be a fun experience for you. If you're looking forward to the songs, then get your tickets and have a WONDERFUL TIME! I can't wait to see it again when it comes to Chicago. I don't think I'll ever tire of this show.

As for Flashdance, no thanks. I wasn't a fan of the film or the soundtrack. And if the show takes a serious approach to the story, then I'd rather spend my money and time on seeing Rock of Ages again. At least I know I'll have a good time.

I do think that what makes Rock of Ages a little different then most jukebox musicals is that they make several references to the fact that they are in fact, in a musical. Whereas, most other jukebox musicals try to treat themselves seriously and treat the songs as if they were in fact written for the show, when that in fact is not at all the case.

I do love this show and I do love the music in it. I am not, however, a fan of this whole notion that they gave themselves, that they were the little musical that could, due to the fact that they moved from Off Broadway and became a successful Broadway show. The only reason behind the move to Broadway was that they sold the film rights prior to the transfer, and it would be odd to make a film musical of an off Broadway show.

Winston, that makes no sense!

I LOVE ROA. I'm not into the music and some of the references fly over my head because I'm too young for them, but I just love it. My favourite thing on in NY at the moment. It's completely silly but totally brilliant. So much fun! I WANNA ROCK!
