Some of those song titles are less than brilliant. The "dreadful town" title suggests some rather feeble satire on the awful American ways, whilst "why Does She Love Me" sounds like the kind of soul searching mush you might find in Boublil's weaker moments- could this be the dissolute Raoul licking his wounds?

"The Beauty Underneath" seems a little too on the nose- could it be that some people aren't beautiful on the surface? Who could that be? "Once Upon a..." a lullabye for Gustave re-capping the backstory perhaps?

"Bathing Beauty" some kind of Coney Island spectacle?

Getting a strong feeling that the 2nd act involves a child snatch, no doubt following a paternity tussle.

Anyone else got any guesses?

The Beautiful Game,
cos the song you are singing's
exactly the same...

I think Our Kind Of Love in The Beautiful Game is a really powerful song - with genuine emotion. This new version is very trite and "eggy" by comparison. Although the melody is still strong and Sierra sings it quite beautifully, it has no impact at all IMO. And even if it sounded really great the whole concept of recycling music from one show to another is pretty abhorrent to me - and it sends out entirely the wrong signals about the show, suggesting that ALW has just run out of musical ideas.

I just can't summon up any genuine enthusiasm about this new musical (or is that a misnomer? lol). I'll probably get to see it at some point (if only for Ramin's presence) but I am in no rush.

The last song suggest there is a opening for a trilogy, sorry just a thought!

I think that was a misinterpretation of what Summer Strallen was saying. They had been running act 1, and had reached the point where Christine arrives by lunchtime. They resumed after lunch.

Besides, just because Christine isn't in Coney Island doesn't mean that there could be scenes in other locations.

Hmmmm I admit to a bias as I know people involved, and trust their judgement, but this songlist if legit is a tad concerning.

Actually I saw that track listing back in October. I'm fairly certain Dress Circle posted it, too.

For all the Yanks out there, it's much cheaper on the Amazon UK site. With shipping to the US, it comes out to around $24 as opposed to $36 + shipping on the Amazon US site.

I have a terrible feeling that the packaging, the trappings and marketing are going to be terrific, but the content will be underwhelming. Same goes for the physical production.

Thanks for the link.

Impossible to really get a sense of the whole from this (although I have heard very reliable rumours of what the ending of the show is...). It's very much like the original POTO, really - lots of lush string music blurring together (although all the fairground stuff is obviously a bit of a change), an incongruous rock number for the Phantom, slightly pedestrian lyrics. Not at all happy with the whole "Raoul = drunken broke dickhead" thing but given that we hear virtually nothing of his in those clips it's hard to judge at this point.

If nothing else, we should all come away singing the set on this one...

I was for the sequel and excited about it but not so much anymore. It's too much like Woman in White. and that kind of music really works well for Webber, look how good things went for Woman in White, Beautiful Game and Whistle down the wind.

I guess catchy songs like what he used for the original and other shows like Evita and Cats are frowned upon these days.
