So what do you guys think is the MOST over-rated pile of rubbish in existance!

I will kick off with "Cats"
PAINFUL show that is dull, un-imaginitive and boring as hell! ...but was a HIT!

...In fact, I think the same can be said about almost EVERY ALW show! :/

I think Cats is definitely on the table! My personal choice will be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and also the Palladium version of Sound of Music !

Dirty twatting dancing

In the minority of not minding Cats, it was bizarre that it ran and ran.

Mamma Mia!

Never wanted to see the show, and after watching the film...there's no way.

It doesn't even strike me as a guilty pleasure. Just don't get it.

I guess this is going to be a VERY subjective thread.

I agree with Cats, The Lords worst show, never really understood what the appeal was, he done shows that are far better and did not get a bit of recognition.

Also agree with Wicked, Jersey Boys and Priscilla.

Can I also throw into the mix;

Return to the Forbidden Planet.
Grease.
Oliver.

Mamma Mia - utter drivel.

How is 'Hairspray' pretentious? I can understand lots of reasons for not liking it (though I disagree), but I can't see how it could be described as pretentious?

Wicked. All style, no substance. Dissapointment

Also, I think Lion King is never as good when you know what's coming next.

And with Rent, is it wrong to think Benny makes the most sense....

I think Hairspray - in the way it tries to deal with the racism issue is highly pretentious, like it's saying "hey look, how wonderful we are by making a serious point in the show about racism" when it's really just corny tosh. Every thing about the show for me was incredibly contrived.

Oh God, yes - I forgot about Lord Of The Rings! The fact that I forgot about it just proves how insignificant and tedious the show was lol.
And the other over-hyped crap I forgot about is SHREK - boring to the point of torture.

The Lion King - the glorious memory I have from seeing the OBC in New York was completely trashed when I went earlier this year in London. Besides the first 8 mins, the show is very longwinded and just kinda boring.

Also, I think the 2009 Broadway revivals of West Side Story and Blithe Spirit were both over-rated. I feel like a traitor admitting this, but I nearly fell asleep during Blithe Spirit - when La Lansbury wasn't on stage, it was total boredom!!
