Jenny Galloway, the Olivier award-winning actress who was in the original company of Mamma Mia! and many other musicals.

She will be going to New York in September to play the cook Mrs Brill in the Broadway company of Mary Poppins ? a part she created when the show opened at the Prince Edward back in 2005.

Ms Galloway is equally at home whether on the musical or dramatic stage, as she was recently in the Donmar West End production of Madame de Sade.

She's already been on Broadway - she played Madame Thenardier in the original cast of the 07 Les Mis revival.

Glad to hear she is reprising the role of Mrs Brill though - she is utterly hilarious!

I loved Jenny Galloway as Amy's mum in Grange Hill. I was gutted when she popped her clogs.

Remember she bought and wrapped up all those presents for Amy to mark various milestones and gave them all to her before she kicked the bucket? Oh my Lord, I could weep just thinking about it. What did she die of? My brother thought she had cancer because of that big mole, but I explained to him that she actually has that in real life and as gross as it is, it's probably nothing to worry about.

I think it was cancer that killed her though. Remember how poor they were and she sold the fishtank for a school uniform? She was such an awesome character and the whole illness thing was handled really well if i remember rightly. I need to get my hands on that episode.

Oh my Lord, yes! I remember everyone in our school used to laugh about Amy Davenport... it even became an insulting term for fat girls at one stage. When that storyline progressed, all that stopped. It quite an impact.

And thanks for the link! I'd forgotten about Spencer... he was awesome! Him and Amy became friends in the end didn't they? He had a very deep voice if I remember rightly.

"She was great in The Music Man"

Thanks Princeton - I was trying to remember what I'd seen her in.

I didn't know she'd been Mrs Lovett - I must have missed that production.

re: Another Brit heading to Broadway...
She played Lovett in 'Sweeny Todd' at Derby Playhouse in Summer 2004.
Her Sweeny was Lyndon Terrachini, an Australlian barritone who replaced James Smillie at the very last moment.
A brilliant out of town production that knocked spots off the Doyle production

re: Another Brit heading to Broadway...
She's played in Les Miserables' three times over the years.

LOVED seeing her on Broadway in Les Miserables and looking forward to seeing her in Mary Poppins.
