Any Objections? is performing at The Drayton Arms Theatre this April.
Following five-star reviews and sell-out shows at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 'Musical Goddess' (Theatre in Brighton), Scarlett Smith, is bringing her debut harp comedy show, Any Objections? to The Drayton Arms Theatre this April.
Smith is on a mission to prove the harp belongs far beyond the orchestra pit, tired of the instrument's demure, classical reputation. Blending live looping harp covers of popular songs, self-produced indie-pop jingles, and fast paced punch lines, Any Objections? is equal parts heartfelt and hilarious.
While reflecting on her 10+ years in the wedding industry, Smith's hunger for a more authentic career path sends her into a spiral of surreal ideas. Jumping headfirst into a fateful boat trip, an interactive gameshow and an extra-terrestrial voyage, the show is a playful exploration of reclaiming your own narrative.
Smith began her music career at 15, finding her first clients while busking on the streets of Bournemouth. However, it wasn't until studying clowning and stand-up at Circomedia (as part of the Circus and Physical Theatre programme), that her passion for comedy bloomed. She now thrives in multidisciplinary spaces, pushing the boundaries between genres and styles. As a queer performer, promoting inclusivity is often at the heart of Smith's work - be that in the wedding industry, or in comedy.
Smith states that 'in a world that often demands conformity, my work invites people to embrace what makes them unique, creating a safe space where difference is celebrated and authenticity sparks joy'
'The show is for anyone looking to reclaim joy and playfulness in their lives. It's for the recovering people pleasers and chronic overthinkers who are done with feeling pushed around. A love letter to unapologetic self-expression, and to building a life that feels undeniably yours.'
Any Objections? is performing at The Drayton Arms Theatre on 12th and 13th April. Tickets can be purchased from the venue Box Office or website.
