The Washington Stage Guild will return to the stage with a masterwork by one of the modern theatre’s most important figures: My Children! My Africa!, the great South African playwright Athol Fugard’s meditation on education and its role in the struggle for justice, along with its sad limits in a culture of oppression and bigotry.
As part of a new initiative to showcase works by exciting emerging playwrights, Keegan Theatre's Boiler Room Series presents the inaugural Playwright in Residence Series. During the world premiere run of WEST BY GOD (playing September 27 through October 20, 2019), Boiler Room Series will produce readings of additional new works by local playwright and company member Brandon McCoy. Readings are free and open to all and will be followed by discussions with the playwright.
The Keegan Theatre announces the cast and creative team of Brandon McCoy's heartwarming new play WEST BY GOD, making its world premiere on September 27, 2019 at The Andrew Keegan Theatre in Washington, DC. Following its premiere in DC, WEST BY GOD will travel to West Virginia in the first ever KeeganConnects tour, a new annual initiative designed to take original, provocative plays to small towns and communities nationwide. The press opening is slated for October 1, 2019.
The Keegan Theatre is proud to announce our 2019-2020 season, featuring a groundbreaking collection of plays and musicals, including one world premiere, three Washington DC premieres, and our first ever U.S. tour. The season, titled Rising to the Challenge, spotlights characters who face unique challenges - from physical, to emotional, to social - which require them to dig deep within themselves to overcome. Through their courageous journeys of personal examination and excavation, these characters grow in strength, resilience, empathy, and confidence to become champions for themselves and the people they love.
