Photo Flash: Sundog Theatre's SCENES FROM A STATEN ISLAND FERRY 2018

Sundog Theatre is proud to announce casting for Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry 2018, to be presented April 14-22 at New Dorp Moravian Church Theatre.

Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry is Sundog Theatre's signature presentation of new, original, one-act plays about our favorite boats that take us from Staten Island to Manhattan and back - the Staten Island Ferries. This year's edition of Scenes, playwrights were asked to pen a one-act play that incorporates a science fiction and/or supernatural element theme on the Ferry.

"This year's set of scenes are a collection of fascinating perspectives on the supernatural, whether it has to do with covert aliens, time travel, or other "unexplainable" phenomena," said Executive Director Susan Fenley. "The stories are quite thought provoking--and some are extremely funny. Audiences of all ages will be able to appreciate these six plays by very talented writers. "

Directors for this year's edition of Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry are Barbara Brandt, Joseph Daly, Karen O'Donnell, Paul Smith, Lisa Tinglum, and Ken Tirado. Scenes is designed by Stephen Fehr (set and lighting). Marisa Monte is Production Stage Manager.

The cast for Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry features Mary St. Angelo, Doug Aspinwall, Peter Celos, Elizabeth Claflin, James Cunningham, Thomas Dieter, Jeremiah Jurkiewicz, Alexis Leary, Dori Levit, Yurika Ohno, Brandon Shockey, Michael Somogyi, and Javan Zapata.

Jersey Beef by Andrew Heinrich, directed by Joseph Daly.
Butch and Ringo, two extraterrestrial scouts, debate the ethics of the coming colonization of the Earth at the hands of their alien armada. Featuring Javan Zapata and Peter Celos.

Rough Sailing by Jenny Mead, directed by Barbara Brandt.
Something's afoot, or rather, at sea, when a couple saves an important decision for a brief ferry ride. They get more than they bargained for. Featuring Elizabeth Claflin and Thomas Dieter.

Second Chances by Frank Logan, directed by Ken Tirado.
While traveling on the Staten Island Ferry, a young budding scientist meets an old man. They begin talking and the young man eventually realizes just how important it is to follow your heart. Featuring Doug Aspinwall and Michael Somogyi.

The Last Passenger by David Vazdauskas, directed by Paul Guest Smith.
Set in a future where computers and Artificial Intelligence are rapidly replacing humans and jobs, Sam finds himself the lone passenger on the Ferry, seeking human contact. Featuring Dori Levit and Brandon Shockey.

The Time Traveler's Daughter by Ariana Nicoletta, directed by Lisa Tinglum.
Staten Islander Ariana Nicoletta's play The Time Traveler's Daughter is about a father-daughter relationship that discusses the importance and hardships of love, and how time can affect that love. Featuring Alexis Leary and James Cunningham.

Very, Very Ferry Lost by Linda L. Rand, directed by Karen O'Donnell.
Two alien beings are lost and crash onto the Ferry. They stumble upon a despondent human who thinks they are from a sci-fi convention and are pranking her. They attempt to understand and help each other. Featuring Jeremiah Jurkiewicz, Mary St. Angelo and Yurika Ohno.

To date, Sundog has presented 90 original one-acts in the popular Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry. Produced plays have come from Staten Islanders (including Justin Ambrosino, Fay Corinotis, Joseph Daly, Helene Montagna, Eric Petillo, Linda Nieves Powell, and Mike Veasey), around the country, and submissions have arrived from playwrights in Europe, Asia and Australia. Several of these plays have been published and have gone on to be produced elsewhere.

Performances of Scenes from the Staten Island Ferry 2018 are Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm and Sunday at 3:00pm at New Dorp Moravian Church Theatre, 2205 Richmond Road. From the SI Ferry Terminal, take the SI Rapid Transit train to the Grant City station or the S74 & S76 bus to the intersection of Richmond Road and Todt Hill Road. Tickets ($18, $20) on sale now. ABOUT SUNDOG THEATRE

Formed in 2002, Sundog Theatre has been presenting original and contemporary theatre for 16 years. The arts company is unique on Staten Island in that it also presents in-school arts programming rooted in theatre, visual arts, dance, music, and literacy.
