Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer-prize winning Broadway musical based loosely on Puccini's opera La Bohème is brought to life at Merrimack Hall by Independent Musical Productions, March 11-19 2011.

RENT follows a year in the lives of seven friends living the disappearing Bohemian lifestyle in New York's East Village. AIDS and both its physical and emotional complications pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom, and Angel; Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble; Benjamin has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends; and Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general, always behind the camera recording the events but never playing a part.

Friday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m.

AIDS Action Coalition

Join the AIDS Action Coalition as we kick off the 2011 Dining With Friends party season at Merrimack Hall during their Wednesday, March 16 showing of RENT. The evening begins with light hors d'oeuvres and cocktails beginning at 6:00 p.m. Guests at the event receive a chance to win door prizes including a playbill signed by the 2007 Broadway cast. Attendees also get the chance to mingle with the local cast.

The event serves as the kick-off for AAC's Dining With Friends party season. Each year the AAC and the North Alabama community come together to raise funds for the agency during Dining With Friends. In the months of April and May dozens of invitation-only dinner parties are hosted by volunteers, which raise money to operate the clinic year-round. The dinner party season ends as all guests and hosts come together for a dessert reception, held this year on May 21.
