Enjoy an evening of youthful musical passion as Singapore Chinese Orchestra young virtuosos Wang Jia Yao (erhu) and Cheng Tzu Ting (ruan) perform a variety of music styles to showcase the diverse musical possibilities of their string instruments.

Belonging to the huqin family of traditional bowed strings instruments, the erhu is capable of producing a variety of tone colours-from full and melancholic to vibrant and piquant. And the ruan-with a history dating back 2000 years-is known for its mellow tones and expressive qualities in conveying nuanced emotion and lyricism.

While Jia Yao steers the audience through Zhang Shi Ye's classic erhu piece A Flower, Tzu Ting's selection includes poetic ruan solo pieces such as Ning Yong's Longing and Chen Yi Chien's Autumn. In the finale, the duo, accompanied by three fellow musicians, present a rendition of A Merry Night in a festive quintet showcasing the unique characteristics of the erhu, ruan, pipa, yangqin, and guzheng.
