The Selfish Giant has a beautiful garden, but he won’t let any of the children play in it. Winter comes and never leaves. The Giant looks over his garden from his tall window. What will he do?



Don’t miss this limited run of a new folk opera, adapted from Oscar Wilde’s classic children’s story by three-time BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Guy Chambers, who has written No 1 songs for Robbie Williams including Angels, Feel and Let Me Entertain You.



The cast are joined on stage by a large band of extraordinary musicians in a unique concert-staging that will transport audiences young and old to a magical world through music.



Directed by Bill Buckhurst whose Pie and Mash shop Sweeney Todd is currently playing on Broadway.

The Selfish Giant is a classic tale, by Oscar Wilde, about a giant who builds a wall around his garden to keep out the town's children but, in doing so, plunges his garden into an endless winter. The show's creators, Jose Ignacio Vivero and Susannah Dalton, instill a sense of urgency in the story by placing the storytellers themselves at a border wall. Traveling, depression-era hucksters, transform their wares to tell a much-needed story to the audience they find waiting to cross.

As Kathy Burke's Lady Windermere's Fan, starring Jennifer Saunders and Samantha Spiro, plays to packed houses, Classic Spring is delighted to announce that Guy Chambers' new folk opera, The Selfish Giant, will be co-produced by Royal & Derngate, Northampton, and directed by multi-award-winning director Bill Buckhurst. The limited run of lightly-staged performances will run at Royal & Derngate 4 April - 7 April, before moving to the Vaudeville from 10 - 14 April. Jonathan Church will direct An Ideal Husband, the third production in the year-long celebration of Oscar Wilde at the Vaudeville Theatre. An Ideal Husband will play at the Vaudeville Theatre 20 April to 14 July 2018, before opening the Theatre Royal Bath Summer Season on 18 July to 4 August 2018.
